  • 2018-01-30 Do Not Underestimate The Child's Graffiti A parent might place his daughter`s tadpole drawing on the fridge out of a love for his child rather than for the funky-looking image, but for many people, that tadpole art is actually quite exquisite. In fact, adult abstract artists were often inspired by children`s drawing. Observers have found similar patterns in modern abstract art and kids` drawing; one example is the "X-ray" drawing, or a drawing in which the "inside" of a person is made visible (like a baby shown inside a woman`s stomach). For the museum-goers out there who tend to point to a piece of modern art and say, [My kid could have made that!" it`s worth remembering that often, that`s actually just what the artist had in mind. Lucky accident or artistic prodigy, acknowledging that young kids aren`t as intent on producing a realistic rendering helps demonstrate what the drawing experience means to them. For many kids, drawing is exhilarating not because of the final product it leads to, but because they can live completely in the world of their drawing for a few minutes. Adults may find it hard to relate to this sort of full-body, fleeting experience. But the opportunities for self-expression that drawing provide have important, even therapeutic, value for kids.

  • 2018-01-26 Tea if by sea, cha if by land: Why the world only has two words for tea With a few minor exceptions, there are really only two ways to say "tea" in the world. One is like the English term-té in Spanish and tee in Afrikaans are two examples. The other is some variation of cha, like chay in Hindi. Both versions come from China. How they spread around the world offers a clear picture of how globalization worked before "globalization" was a term anybody used. The words that sound like "cha" spread across land, along the Silk Road. The "tea"-like phrasings spread over water, by Dutch traders bringing the novel leaves back to Europe. The term cha is "Sinitic," meaning it is common to many varieties of Chinese. It began in China and made its way through central Asia, eventually becoming "chay" (چای) in Persian. That is no doubt due to the trade routes of the Silk Road, along which, according to a recent discovery, tea was traded over 2,000 years ago. This form spread beyond Persia, becoming chay in Ur

  • 2018-01-23 Xi's Vision Pertinent For Davos This Year This time last year, President Xi Jinping made two historic speeches in Switzerland during a state visit. One was delivered in the ski resort of Davos, where he urged the world to abandon protectionism and isolationism while calling for an open economy, free trade and globalization. The other was made in the UN's Geneva headquarters, where he proposed a shared future of humankind by collectively coping with global challenges. One year on, what Xi proposed will be highly pertinent when US President Donald Trump joins more than 3,000 politicians, business elites and opinion leaders from around the world at the tiny Swiss town for this year's gathering of the World Economic Forum. Possibly by borrowing ideas from the two speeches, the organizers have set "Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World" as the theme of the forum, to be held from Jan 23 to 26. While Trump will deliver an address before the close of the four-day meeting, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a kick-off speech.

  • 2018-01-17 How to catch Waves? Learning how to catch waves the first step in surfing, after paddling out, that is. There are techniques that one should employ in order to smoothly and successfully take off on waves, and to prevent falling. Just to clarify, [catching the wave" is the point when the wave hits the tail of the surfboard and starts to push the surfer as he or she is paddling to catch the wave. In general, you never want to catch the wave right as it is breaking; You either want to catch the wave before or after it has broken. After the waves breaks, it turns into white wash. If you catch the wave at this point, the whitewash will push you straight towards the beach. Now, to catch a wave, the first thing you`ll need to do is estimate where the wave is going to break, and decide when to start to paddling to put yourself in a good place to catch the wave. Once you have done that, turn the board so the nose faces the beach the beach, and start to paddle as the wave is coming so you are catching it either before or after it breaks.

Unequipped to manage snow on roads, cars and buses were stranded on roads as they became icy. The snow didn't last long as temperatures rose to 42°F by the late afternoon. This was enough time for children to make snowmen and sled on the sand dunes, creating memories that may not be reenacted for many years to come. The Sahara Desert town of Ain Sefra has experienced just three snow events in the past 37 years with the last two years having snow (1979, 2016, and 2017). In the coming decades and centuries, we may find the Sahara Desert becoming the fertile grassland it once was. Research shows that northern Africa where the Sahara currently is was once dotted with large lakes, veget

  • 2018-01-12 A quarter of the world could become a DESERT if global warming increases by just 2ºC An increase of just 2°C in global temperatures could make the world considerably drier and more desert-like, new research has warned. More than a quarter of the world's land surface, home to more than 1.5 billion people, would become more arid and droughts and wildfires could be widespread. Limiting global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F) would dramatically reduce the percentage of the Earth's surface affected, scientists found. Aridity is a measure of the dryness of the land surface, obtained from combining precipitation and evaporation. 'Aridification would emerge over 20 to 30 percent of the world's land surface by the time the global temperature change reaches 2ºC ', said Dr Manoj Joshi from the University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences and one of the study's co-authors.
  • 2018-01-12 POSITIVE is Far More Terrible Than NEGATIVE The truth is that more than half of a person`s life does not usually go as we wish. Those who tries so hard to appear positive are usually those who feel totally not secured deep down in their hearts. This is just like that those who put on real efforts to show people how rich they are are usually not the real rich people. Or their wealth and social status are usually neither stable nor recognized. These weird behaviors all come from a defensive mechanism that roots in humans` intuition. This mechanism is called denial. When feeling threatened by something, most people`s first action would be to deny the existence of the threats. It`s like when you lack some ability but can`t bear to admit that you lack it, the most efficient solution you can come up with would be to deny the righteousness of this ability without any reason. This is totally not healthy. It`s harmful to let any single emotion dominate one`s mind for too long, even if it`s a positive emotion. What you truly n

  • 2018-01-10 Need To Know About kiteboard Hydrofoil Conditions There are a few things to consider before heading out into the water on your new toy. First and foremost is the water depth. The foil rides about 3 ft below the surface of the water so making sure to have ample clearance is essential for the well being of your gear. Your first few sessions you`re going to want to have a bit of power in your kite so we recommend starting in 12-20knots of wind with a 12 or 10m kite. Even though the foil can perform in ultra light wind, you will want to be powered so you can edge against the kite as you normally do. Once you've mastered the foil, riding in ultra light winds with much smaller kites becomes the norm. Nick Leason, the owner and designer at MHL, rides a 7m kite in 8-35knots of wind on his Lift foilboard. How hard is it? I won't lie, the foil can be very frustrating when you first get on it. The first session was quite the shocker, as I couldn't foil for more than 10 ft at a time. With each session foiling gets easier and easier. By my 5th session I was confidently getting long smooth, silent rides, and I was amazed at the speed, upwind and downwind ability. I was still crashing but that is half the fun of learning something new.
